Return to Participating in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition

Latin America

northamericaThe Latin American Test Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition (the Latin American Regional Competition Test Round) was held for the first time in 2019.

The competition is held entirely in English.

This Competition presents a unique opportunity for teams of 2 to 3 students to engage in matters of public international law of contemporary relevance to outer space, to develop their legal advocacy skills with other top universities from throughout the region and to interact in a unique forum for intellectual and cultural exchange. The Competition is open for law students and students enrolled in schools other than law where space law or public international law forms a part of the teaching program. Each school may send one team.

Update for the 2020 Latin American Test Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition:

Due to the current circumstances regarding COVID-19, the regional organizing committee for Latin America has made the decision to cancel the oral rounds of the Manfred Lachs Moot Court scheduled to be held in Lima, Peru, from May 14 to 15. The Region will select the winner based on memorial scores only.
Since the memorial grade will now make up 100% of the score, we have decided to extend the deadline to April 30th, 2020, in order to give the teams more time to perfect their arguments and present the best written memorial.
The winning team will continue to receive financial assistance to attend the World Finals at the IISL meeting in Dubai.
