↑ Return to Lachs Moot Competition

Europe

europeEach year in May the European Centre for Space Law organises, together with the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), the European Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.

Regional winners from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America compete in the World Finals, held in conjunction with the annual International Astronautical Congress.

After having hosted the event for many years in the premises of ESA Headquarters, ECSL decided to organise it each year in a University in Europe in order to promote this competition and spread the knowledge of space law all over Europe.

The European Round was successfully organised in:

  • Riga, Latvia (2008)
  • Athens, Greece (2009)
  • Györ, Hungary (2010)
  • St Petersburg, Russian Federation (2011)
  • Bucharest, Romania (2012)
  • Rome, Italy (2013)
  • Wroclaw, Poland (2014)

IISL Young Scholars Awards

The IISL Young Scholars Fund was created in 2011 to support the achievements of students participating in each of the four Regional Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. The Fund grants monetary awards in the following categories:

  • Winning Team: 200 Euros
  • Team with the Best Memorials: 125 Euros
  • Best Oralist of the Regional Round: 100 Euros

The Young Scholars Fund has been formed and is largely maintained by donations from IISL members, to honor the very significant achievement of these students.
