Press release IISL 2011-005: IISL Board Elections at the Cape Town International Astronautical Congress

At its recent General Assembly in Cape Town, South Africa on 5 October 2011, a number of positions on the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) was open for (re-)election.

As a result of the elections, firstly Prof. Vladimir Kopal and Prof. Jose Monserrat were elected as Honorary Directors, in recognition of their longstanding and very valuable contributions to the IISL over the past decades.

Secondly, Mr K.R.S. Murthi (India; currently Senior expert in the Office of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, and IISL Board Member since 2003) was elected as a new Vice President of the Institute. This is the first time that an Asian national holds a position as officer of the IISL.

Thirdly, Mr Dennis Burnett (United States; currently VP Trade Policy and Export Control at EADS North America) was newly elected to the Board, in the position of Treasurer.

Fourthly, Prof. Mahulena Hofmann (Czech Republic; currently Holder of the SES Chair in Satellite Communications and Media Law, University of Luxemburg) was elected as a new Board Member, whilst Prof. Elisabeth Back-Impallomeni, Prof. Stephan Hobe and Prof. Frans von der Dunk were re-elected to the Board.
