2008 IISL Awards

The winner of this year's 2008 Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition was the University of New South Wales from Sydney, Australia.

The runner up was the University of Augsburg (Germany) with semi finalists being Georgetown University from the United States.

The final was adjudicated by their Excellencies Judges Koroma and Tomka and Professor Francis Lyall and held in the City Chambers in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Madeleine Ellicott of the University of New South Wales was awarded the Best Oralist Award while the University of Augsburg was awarded the Best Memorials Award.


At this year's IISL dinner, held after the Moot Court competition and within the framework of the International Astronautical Congress, the following awards were given:

The newly-established Lee Love award for members of the winning Moot Court team was given to the members of the team of the University of New South Wales.

Professor Francis Lyall of the University of Aberdeen, member of the IISL Board of Directors, received the IISL Lifetime Achievement Award 'recognising his outstanding, life-long educational, scholarly, managerial, and internationally cooperative contributions to the development of international space law'

In addition, IISL President Tanja Masson-Zwaan received the IAA Social Sciences Award on 28 September 'for significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of the astronautical sciences'.
