The Vice-President is one of the Officers upon the Board of the International Institute of Space Law.
Mr. K.R. Sridhara Murthi serves as Senior Expert in the Office of Adviser to PM on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations in India. He is member of Interim Core Group set up by the Planning Commission of lndia for evolving the National GIS system.
He is a leading expert in space commercialisation and space policy with his rich experience in India’s space programme in key positions.
He served as Managing Director of Antrix Corporation, and also as Scientific Secretary of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He contributed extensively to technology transfer and space industry development programmes in ISRO and also served as a counsellor at the Embassy of India in Paris, promoting cooperation between space agencies! industry from Europe and India’s space establishments.
Mr Murthi has rich experience in promoting intemational cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. He was elected as Vice President of International Astronautical Federation during 1998-2002, responsible for relations with international organizations. He represented lndia as a delegate to United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), and had been a Trustee of International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).
He has been the recipient of the Social Sciences Award of International Academy of Astronautics in 2003, the Astronautical Society of India Award in Space Systems Management in 2004, the ISRO Merit award in 2007 for Commercialisation and the Lifetime achievement award from the International Institute of Space Law in 2007. He has more than forty publications in national and international journals and is co-editor of the book “Perspectives in Communications”, published by World Scientific Publishing Company, Singapore.
